Brandy South Africa Stadium Concert Empty! Why Only 40 People Showed Up For Johannesburg Nelson Mandela Tribute (VIDEO)

Brandy

Brandy may not be performing in South Africa again anytime soon. The singer held a stadium concert last weekend in a 90,000-seat arena in Johannesburg, but only 40 people showed up for the event! Brandy was performing as part of the Nelson Mandela Sport & Culture Day, but it seems that people didn’t want to stick around for the concert. The singer only performed two songs before leaving the stage.

Concert promoters claim the crowd wasn’t aware Brandy would be performing and therefore decided to leave after a long day. “It was late. People didn’t know there was a concert after the games,” @kabamo tweeted. “No one knew Brandy was around. Maybe a 40 people audience.”

The dismal attendance at Brandy’s South Africa concert, however, doesn't reflect the public's opinion of the singer because her albums are still performing well. Her most recent release last year, Two Eleven, debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her debut single featuring Chris Brown, “Put It Down,” peaked at No. 3 on the U.S. Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and received favorable reviews from critics, becoming her first top-ten entry in a decade.

In recent years, Brandy has been featured more prominently in television movies. Last March, she starred in the Tyler Perry film Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor, but the film received poor reviews. She also has a permanent role on the BET comedy The Game, and appeared on 90210 and Drop Dead Diva in 2011. In the fall of 2010, she competed as a contestant on Dancing With the Stars and finished in fourth place.

Brandy has struggled to revive the multi-platinum success of her career ever since her fatal automobile accident in December 2006, in which her Range Rover struck another vehicle on the 405 Freeway and killed Awatef Aboudihaj. It was later confirmed in toxicology reports that Aboudihaj had “slight traces” of marijuana in her system at the time of the crash. After a thorough investigation, Brandy was cleared of any wrongdoing. She settled financially with Aboudihaj’s parents and two children in a wrongful death lawsuit, as well as two other drivers who were involved and injured in the accident.
