5 Arrested As OPC, Police Clash In Lagos

Pandemonium broke out, yesterday, at Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos, following a clash between policemen and suspected members of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC.

Trouble, as gathered, started after some policemen on stop-and-search flagged down the OPC vehicle which was moving towards Agege area for an event.

An eye witness who identified himself as Timothy, said: “The policemen fired tear gas canisters which choked some of the OPC members. Others still managed to flee the scene in their vehicles.

“But some of those affected by the tear gas were arrested and handcuffed at the end of the altercation which lasted about an hour.”

Contacted, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, said five persons, among them a female were arrested.

Describing the incident as disturbance of public peace, Braide said: “It was a case of disturbance of public peace/ assault on police officers.

“At about 11.30 am, hoodlums numbering over 300 masquerading as OPC members launched an unprovoked attack on policemen on rescue mission and dislodged them.

“Five of them, Paul Adeola, Kemi Ajayi, a female; Sunday Oguniyi, Kazeem Oloyede and one Austin were arrested in two Volkswagen buses with number plates XY 31 GGE; XT 29 FKJ and one Nissan saloon car with number plate DU 721 GGE and an unregistered Toyota Camry car were recovered from them.”

However, when one of the factional leaders of OPC, Otunba Gani Adams was contacted, he said those involved in the rift did not belong to his faction.

According to him, “those who clashed with the police are never our members. Our findings revealed that they are launching a political party called Unity Party at Amao Street in Agege today (yesterday). It was on their way to the place that they clashed with the police.

“We were in Osun Osogbo last week and throughout our stay there, there was no report of any violence.

“We have never clashed with any law enforcement agency. The national leaders of OPC are with me where we are holding the national coordinators’ meeting.”

I can tell you categorically that those who clashed with the police are from the other faction.

“It is unfortunate that at this level of our political history, some people still believe they can lead a group they cannot control. You don’t lead an organization you cannot control. We are law abiding citizens of this country and we would never take laws into our hands.”

In his own response, OPC founder, Dr Frederick Fasheun, said; ” I do not know of any faction in OPC. And the report has not reached me”.

NANS Plans Protest To End ASUU Strike

National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, plans to hold a nation-wide protest as a last resort to force the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to end the protracted strike of university lecturers.

NANS’ President, Yinka Gbadebo, responding to allegations that the students’ body was not bothered by the 60-day-old strike, said the union had been employing other matured approaches to appeal to both the government and ASUU.

According to him, “NANS is not relaxed but we have decided to take approaches that don’t require us to make noise. We have been meeting with executive members of ASUU, the Nigerian Universities Commission, Minister of Education and the FG.

“We have also written to meet with the universities NEEDS Implementation Committee chairman and Governor of Benue State, Mr. Gabriel Suswan. If we don’t receive any response by the end of the week, we would issue an ultimatum and take it up from there.

“I have been consulting with all SUG leaders in the affected schools so that we would speak with one voice. Going to the streets would be our last option but we would do so to protest how long this strike has lingered.”

HEALTH TIPS: Home Remedies For Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are not a medical cause for concern, but they can be unsightly and lead to embarrassment. Although there are a number of treatments for stretch marks, including laser removal, dermabrasion, and retinoid creams, these can be prohibitively expensive and are not altogether natural.

Fortunately, there are also a number of home remedies for stretch marks, which can deal with the scars in a less aggressive manner. Let’s take a look at the best of those remedies now.

Tea tree oil

Due to its anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and antibiotic properties, tea tree oil is a popular home remedy for a number of ailments. For the best results, apply tea tree oil to the affected areas every night. Although it has a strong medicinal smell, bear with it and you’ll see a noticeable difference in your stretch marks.

Aloe vera

Apply the aloe vera gel directly to the affected area every morning. Allow it to soak into the skin until it completely dries. Although it won’t completely get rid of stretch marks, it will help a great deal.

Cocoa butter

Cocoa butter is used for a wide range of skin treatments, including anti-wrinkling, anti-ageing, and yes, stretch marks. Cocoa butter works by moisturising your skin, increasing circulation, and improving its natural elasticity. To use the butter most effectively, apply to the affected area at least twice a day.

Olive oil

Effective use of olive in the treatment of stretch marks includes rubbing warm olive oil on the affected areas and consuming an appropriate quantity for your diet. In addition to aiding discoloration, olive oil will help moisturise your skin, thereby keeping it smooth and healthy.

3 Die, 5 Injure As Fuel Tanker Explodes In Ibadan

A tanker carrying petroleum product caught fire at Orogun junction along Iwo road\Ojoo expressway in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Tuesday, killing three people and injuring five others.

The incident happened as the tanker was trying to off-load petroleum into another tanker near a filling station. It exploded after spilling petrol on the main road. The dead victims were burnt beyond recognition while two sports utility vehicles and other property were destroyed by the inferno.

Those who were injured in the incident were quickly taken to the hospital. One of the eyewitnesses, Kafaya Adewusi, said the fire started as a faulty truck was offloading petrol from its tank to an empty tanker. She said the technical fault led to the fire.

“I was on the other side of the road waiting for a taxi when the incident happened. People started running away from the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation vehicle that was spilling fuel but some were not fast enough to beat the fire. Efforts were made to push the burning vehicle away but the effect of the heat made it impossible. The driver could not be found,” she said.

Police and men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps who were there to maintain order, made frantic effort to control the crowd.

42yr Old Man Arrested For Raping, Impregnating Lawyer’s 16yr Old Daughter

The Suspect

A 42-year-old man, Rasak Ishola, has been arrested by the police and charged to the Ejigbo Magistrate’s court, for allegedly raping and impregnating the 16-year-old daughter (name withheld) of a lawyer at Igando, Lagos state.

It was gathered from reports that the incidence took place at Igando, where both the suspect and the victim reside.

Mr. Ishola, who is also the father of three children, was said to have reportedly terminated the pregnancy without informing the parents of the victim.

Below is how PM News is reporting it;

The complications arising from the abortion made the girl fall sick. When her parents became apprehensive about her illness and asked her what happened and why her condition had deteriorated over time, she then opened up and confessed what happened to her.

The angry father went to the police and reported the incident.Ogun State-born Ishola was arrested and detained at Igando Police Division where he was charged to Ejigbo Magistrate’s court with the alleged offences under the Criminal Code.

Ishola, who is married and has children, allegedly admitted that the teenage girl was his girlfriend and that he had been sleeping with her without his wife’s knowledge.“I knew her six months ago and since she was living in the same area with me, we were meeting secretly until she became pregnant,” he narrated.

He denied the rape charge against him and claimed she is above 18 years old and had just gained admission into Delta State University as a first year student.

Ishola said when she became pregnant, her father, who is a legal practioner, started making trouble with him, and his efforts to settle the matter with the lawyer failed because he said he could not meet his conditions.

Asked what could have led him into all that, he said it was temptation and not that he actually raped her.

Ishola said he kept the affairs away from his wife and because of the incident his wife has now known what she was not supposed know and hear. When he was brought to the court to be arraigned, the court discovered that the victim was a minor and decided to shelve the trial.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs M. B. Folami ordered that the matter should be transferred to a Family Court at Ikeja.
